The Bujinkan
The Bujinkan (武神館) is an international martial arts organization based in Japan and headed by Masaaki Hatsumi. The combat system taught by this organization comprises nine separate ryūha, or schools, which are collectively referred to as Bujinkan Budō Taijutsu. The Bujinkan is most commonly associated with ninjutsu. However, Masaaki Hatsumi uses the term Budo (meaning martial way) as he says the ryūha are descended from historical samurai schools that teach samurai martial tactics and ninjutsu schools that teach ninja tactics.
The Dojo
Under the direction of a Bujinkan Senior Instructor, Bujinkan Tenchijin Dojo YYC follows the spirit and feeling of our Soke, Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi. Every effort is made to create an atmosphere as close to the feeling of training in Japan. This will allow a student with Bujinkan Tenchijin Dojo YYC to make the Japan training experience with Dr. Hatsumi and his Shihan a rewarding one.
Bujinkan Tenchijin Dojo YYS is a not-for-profit martial arts school.
Our Mission
With an emphasis on basics, continuously improve our martial skills by maintaining a student first attitude.
Our Vision
A positive place for humble, responsible and sincere martial arts students to study Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu.
About the Training
Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, Grandmaster of the nine arts comprising the Bujinkan system, is famous as the world’s leading authority on Ninjutsu. Several of the arts however, are other ancient Japanese fighting arts. This blending gives the student a wide range of abilities, from subtle jujutsu grappling to heavy battlefield weapons techniques. Such versatility provides skills for all body types, ages and situations for man or woman.
This is not a sport. There is no competition. Training is hands-on, relaxed and friendly. Because budo is a living martial art, instead of peaking in their twenties, practitioners improve with age. Rolling and falling skills can save life or limb outside of training. An added benefit to continued training keeps the body young and supple.
Physical training is only a reflection of the more important inner training. Though spiritual, it is not based on, nor interferes with any religion. “It is important to develop a spirit to enable one to act calmly in all situations. To train the spirit is the real value of the martial arts.” – Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, Phd.
We follow a curriculum which provides the foundation that will take a student from a beginner to black belt level.
Our goal is to prepare students to go to Japan themselves and receive the art directly from the source.
Our instructors endeavor to progress in their own training, in addition to teaching.
